Jack Carew جاك كارو

Jack Carew is the science engagement intern at the National Council for Science and the Environment. He recently received his bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from Middlebury College. His thesis investigated the means by which cultural manifestations of HIV in Chile, Lebanon, and Jordan can be used to build culturally competent health interventions. He loves languages and communication with others and recognizes the capacity for language to deconstruct cultural barriers. He studies Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin. He also likes to feed his interest in life sciences and conducted independent research in a chemical biology lab investigating chemical methods used to bind proteins to special bioactive molecules. He is currently an alternate for a Fulbright Award to conduct a research project at the intersection of climate change and neglected tropical diseases in rural Morocco. When not in the lab, Jack served as an elementary Mandarin instructor, a board member of TEDxMiddlebury, the Page One Literacy Project Programs Coordinator, and a Language in Motion presenter at Middlebury College.
